Ye Zhaofeng (b. 1996) is a Chinese artist who lives and works in Hangzhou. Born in Wuxi, he graduated from the China Academy of Art’s Affiliated High School before attending the China Academy of Art (CAA), where he received both a BFA and MFA in the CAA’s Oil Painting Department.
Ye’s paintings pay attention to the contradictions and conflicts that exist in our reality and is aware of the phenomenon of how digital technology has been a major change in the course of human history. His paintings delve into how interacting with others and communication is now expressed through smart technologies, where the boundaries between physical space and virtual reality become increasingly blurred.
The depiction of disconnection and distance is deftly expressed in his strong use of brushstrokes, visualizing the blurred world in which one lives in, and enhances the sense of conflict between the objects and the environment getting stronger. Ye explores a mind that is an ideal life, which is simultaneously near yet far, and attempts to find balance in a stressful life.
His works have been included in group exhibitions and fairs including ‘Landscape and New History’ at Dasixiang Museum of Contemporaty Art (Jinhua, 2023), ‘Loading’ at EveryArt Gallery (Shanghai, 2023), ‘Open Gallery 2022’ at Bologni Experience Center (Beijing, 2022), ‘Living Together’ at Zhejiang Art Museum (Hangzhou, 2022), ‘AUCART Timestamp’ for AUCArt (UK, 2021), ‘The Domain of Communication’ at Westlake University (Hangzhou, 2021), ‘Supporting Wisdom with Beauty’ at the National Museum of China (Beijing, 2020), and ‘The Resistance of the Sleepers’ at UCCA Dunes Art Museum (Beidaihe, 2020).
